ChangeIP.com was established in May of
1999. We are based in San Diego, California. Our core business
was to provide the best Free Dynamic DNS and Custom Dynamic DNS
services around. With the introduction of broadband services to the
general public came the ability to serve content on your own without the
need for a web host. ISPs throughout the world are now assigning
Dynamic IP addresses to their customers which makes it harder for people
to find their machines. Thus ChangeIP.com was born. We provide
the ability to tie domain names to a moving target - your servers.
Without Dynamic DNS your website or other services would be unavailable
for days at a time while your DNS records replicated. |

Our global network infrastructure consists of many different
components. Let's explore some of these technologies and how they
work together. Network Infrastructure: ChangeIP.com hosts many of its servers from the Level3 facility in San Diego, CA. Level3 is one of the largest backbone internet providers in the world. See an overview of the facility and network backbone here: Level3 Colocation Overview Check out some of these videos on the Level3 network backbone and you will be amazed at what they've done: Level3 Videos We have a secondary location about 50 miles away from the Level3 facility that hosts a secondary DNS server. We are current expanding our global presence and placing DNS servers in more locations on the East Coast and in Europe - look for these announcements soon. Dynamic DNS Backend: We built our Dynamic DNS system from the ground up using the best tools available today. Our backend DNS infrastructure is a mixture between FreeBSD and Windows 2003 servers. All DNS and customer records are stored in a database for instant updates, replication, backups and blazing speed. Our Dynamic DNS zone files are compiled using custom programs that read from a relational SQL database. When changes are made to your records the Dynamic DNS zone files are regenerated and put into production using our proprietary distribution methods. Once the domain is put into place on the primary name server the records are then replicated to our secondary servers using standard DNS zone transfers. Web Sites: Our ChangeIP.com websites are hosted on Windows 2000 IIS servers as well as Apache running on FreeBSD. We've written plug in modules for Dynamic DNS, Domain Name Registration and our POP3/SMTP Email Services. ChangeIP.com uses XML to send and receive real time data from various partners for domain name purchases, maintenance and other lookup utilities. All of our servers are kept up to date on all security patches to provide you reliable and uninterrupted service. |
