Our newer update scripts can handle many different types of input, for example using wildcard patterns, set numbers, group names, and individual hosts. You can create a set of hostnames that auto update while your at home. You can create another set of hostnames that auto update while you are at work.
The [hostname] parameter on the update URL determines what gets updated. If you specify a single hostname then only that hostname will be updated. If you specify a wildcard, then anything that matches that pattern under your account will get updated. To use Set #1 or Set #2 from the website control panel you can specify *1 or *2 as the [hostname] parameter. This will expand any hosts included in each set and perform the update to those records.
Updating your Dynamic DNS from multiple locations is easy. Simply install a software client at each location that you need to update your records from, and specify on each client the [hostname] that should be updated. Each location can be configured differently to update its own individual set of records and not interfere with the others.
When using the HomingBeacon software for updating your Dynamic DNS you should enter the specific hostname in the target form field. This target will be used in the [hostname] property of the update URL.
NOTE: If you leave certain hostnames configured as part of Set #1 on the website, the first time you perform an update on a newly installed machine you might accidentally update something you do not wish to. If you are using multiple locations, make sure that you uncheck the 'Set 1 & 2' boxes before performing your Dynamic DNS update.
