Domain name registrations are removed from the registry when they get stale / old. The VeriSign registry has changed how they are going to be processing deletes from the registry in the future. Here is how they explain it:
"As of 18 September 2004, the deletion procedures for domain name registrations that have passed the anniversary date will change. Currently, domain names are deactivated 6 days after the anniversary date and deleted 38 days after the anniversary date. As of 18 September 2004 you will only be able to renew names up until 36 days past the anniversary date. Domain name registrations, which have not been renewed, will be deleted 36 days after the anniversary date has passed. *"
"* Please Note: Network Solutions reserves the right to delete a domain name that has not been renewed and/or paid for at any time without notice to you or the registrant. Notifications are a courtesy."
ChangeIP.com does send expiration notices about 90 days in advance, and a few more along the way as well. If your email address is incorrect you will not receive these expiration notices, and your domain might expire accidentally. Please ALWAYS keep your email address on file with ChangeIP.com (as well as your whois record) so that you may receive these important email expirations.
