Step 4: LocationFree® TV Private Addressing
Configuring the NetAV function in your firewall / router.

Configuring the base station with a static IP address for firewalls and routers.

If you are behind a broadband firewall or gateway you most likely will need to assign your LocationFree® TV with a private IP address.  In order to reliably use the NetAV functions you should assign your base station a static, private IP address that does not change automatically.  This allows you to create a port forward or DMZ entry that will always point to the base station.  See the steps below to perform this advanced setup.

Instructions:

Note:  Please refer to the latest NetAV quick start guide before starting this process.  The information below was last updated on February 27th, 2005.

1.  The base station should be given a static IP address on your private network.  This is done so that any firewall rules you create to allow outside access will not have to change if your base station 'renews' its IP address.

Go to Settings -> Base Station -> Internet Connections -> LAN.  You can get to the Settings menu from the bottom bar on most screens.  Make sure the box next to Automatic IP address configuration (DHCP) is checked and write down on a piece of paper the information in all of the fields.

Settings > Base Station > Internet Connection > LAN (DHCP)

2.  Uncheck the box next to Automatic IP Address Configuration (DHCP).  The information in the fields will be cleared which "releases" the automatic IP settings.

3.  To set a static private IP address you can now enter the information you previously wrote down in Step A, with one exception.  For the IP address, be sure to change the last number to .64.  So, if the IP address your router automatically assigned was 192.168.1.5, then enter or "assign" 192.168.1.64.  Note:  You can use any unassigned IP address within your network, .64 was given as an example and should be free from any conflicts within your network.

Settings > Base Station > Internet Connection > LAN (DHCP)

4.  After entering a static IP address from your private network make sure you click the 'Set' button.  This will save the information to the base station.

5.  Press the 'INDEX' button on the top of the monitor and select 'Web' to go to the internet.  Make sure you are able to access the internet by viewing any web page.  If you are able to access the internet, the settings are correct.  If you cannot access the internet, please double check the information you've entered and repeat step A again if needed.

6.  Configure the base station NetAV settings to send video from the base station to a remote monitor in the Enable / Disable NetAV screen, as shown below.  Check the 'Enable' box and enter port 5021.

Settings > Base Station > NetAV Settings > Enable/Disable NetAV

7.  Configure the monitor to receive video from the base station in the NetAV settings screen, as shown below.  The name you should enter into the 'Static IP Address or domain name of the base station' field is the name you signed up for, ie:  netav.ddns.ms.  The default port is 5021 and should only be changed if using more than 1 base station behind the same router.

Settings > Base Station > NetAV Settings > NetAV Connection
